Organic & Biodynamic Wine Conference
BioGro NZ were extremely proud to be the principal sponsor of the Organic and Biodynamic Wine Conference this year, held at the ANZ theatre in Blenheim. More than 300 people assembled together for 3 days filled to the brim with insightful talks, delicious wine tastings and an outstanding organic feast featuring Chef Bevan Smith from Riverstone Kitchen.
The theme of this years conference was Liquid, Life and Label. Our CEO, Donald Nordeng, was a speaker on the third day with a focus on 'unity and change'. It is no secret that New Zealand is yet to implement a specific national regulation for the term 'Organic'. Internationally, we are falling behind other countries to do so. One of the core messages that Donald expressed, was how important it is for the organic sector as a whole to unify together as we opt for an organic regulation within New Zealand. By the sector coming together to express 'one voice', it is with hope that it will not only enforce some movement, but it will also ensure that the organic sector will get what it needs from this regulation.
We were so pleased to see how passionate all of the winegrowers and vineyards were about using organic and biodynamic practices, and each person had their own unique story as to how this came to be. We came away from the conference with some engaging conversations, and its inspiring to see this interest spreading across the nation.
A huge thank you to a handful of our licensees for providing some delicious produce and beverages for us to enjoy over the three days - tLeafT, L'affare, Pheonix Organics, Ceres, Retro Organics and Jersey Cow Organics - your kindness is greatly appreciated.
