Nuron's use in cleaning kiwifruit bins
Q. One of our BioGro auditors recently noticed a number of different uses of Nuron, a fruit bin sanitiser, during a number of kiwifruit packhouse surveillance audits.
Nuron is used on dirty bins after the fruit picking to spray rinse the kiwifruit bins.
In some pack-houses will air dry the bins after sanitising, others will undergo a fresh water rinse after sanitising. This variability begs the question, what is BioGro’s position on the use of Nuron?
A. Nuron itself come with a requirement for an intervening event after use. Different pack-houses will interpret this requirement differently and that’s where the variability of treatment can come from.
An intervening event can be either air drying or a water rinse, both of these are acceptable options to help remove residue after a bins has been sanitised. Other intervening events can also be used so long as it is proven to remove residue. What that intervening event might be is relevant to what your needs are.
