BioGro Introduces New Organic Service
BioGro recognises that New Zealand producers, growers and farmers need support to become certified, especially when they are first exploring organic production. We have now introduced a new on-boarding programme to help make it easier for anyone to ‘go organic.’
BioGro’s Initial Contact Meetings are designed to inform and assist producers interested in organic production and certification. They are a secure and effective way of gaining further understanding and insight into organic certification and how it can benefit you.
Since the programme launched in November 2014, the meetings have proven successful and increasingly popular with over 20 producers, farmers and manufacturers across New Zealand taking part so far.
BioGro’s CEO Donald Nordeng said that the meetings are a critical part of assisting New Zealand farmers and producers to transition to organic production.
“If you are new to organics and certification, it is important that you have the opportunity to learn more about the process and how BioGro certification can benefit you.”
“The idea around the Initial Contact Meetings is to give people thinking about organic production a better idea about what is involved.”
"BioGro has always backed and assisted New Zealand producers in becoming organic. The Initial Contact Meetings are the best way we can connect with producers and provide this support.”
How do the Initial Contact Meetings work?
New Zealand’s organic industry is still relatively small and is built on networks and connections. It is helpful to be informed and prepared about certification and the industry – which is where BioGro’s Initial Contact Meetings come in.
The Initial Contact Meetings are an opportunity to let you know how certification will benefit your brand, business and what market opportunities there are available.
The idea is to give people considering certification a good idea of whether they are ready to start the transition, or whether there are aspects they need to work on first.
As part of an Initial Contact Meeting, a BioGro Auditor visits your property or operation on-site to learn more about your business. They provide an in-depth overview of BioGro’s certification process, answer any questions and assess how viable your business is in becoming certified.
Commencing an Initial Contact Meeting BioGro provides you with an application pack and a personalised evaluation report.
Each meeting is 1-2 hours and costs $ 150 + GST. However, if certification is applied for within three months of the initial visit, BioGro will deduct 50 % of the Initial Contact Meeting fee off the application for certification.
Our Initial Contact Meetings are open to all production types including dairy, viticulture, primary production, input manufacturing, processed products, skincare and cosmetics.
