Introducing BioGro's Registered Products Programme
BioGro’s Registered Products Programme for wine additions officially kicked off this September in preparation for the upcoming 2016 vintage.
The programme is aimed at manufacturers and suppliers of wine additions to assist them in supplying and supporting New Zealand’s rising organic wine movement.
In 2015 the number of certified organic vineyards topped 165, compared to just 20 in 2007. This year 5.4% of all viticulture land in New Zealand became certified organic and 12.5% of winegrowers have at least one certified organic vineyard. There are currently 69 certified organic wineries under organic management.
These most recent statistics confirm that New Zealand’s wine industry is set for significant growth. BioGro is committed to backing the movement, including supporting New Zealand’s oenological supply companies in meeting demand.
The Registered Products Programme is an affordable, sustainable and easy way for suppliers to provide wineries with products that are compliant with organic winemaking requirements.
I am a winemaker…what can I expect from BioGro’s Registered Products Programme?
As a certified organic winemaker, you can apply for wine additions through BioGro’s Registered Products Programme from 2016 onwards. These products will be listed on our website and approval will be given automatically. For each non-registered products, supportive documentation will still need to be provided to BioGro by individual winemakers.
A number of suppliers have already approached BioGro to register their products. However the more suppliers we get on board, the more additions will be available for you to use automatically. We encourage all certified organic wineries to approach their suppliers about getting in touch with BioGro to register their products.
Online Wine Additions Tool
For those that are familiar with BioGro’s Online Inputs Tool for farms and vineyards, a similar online system is currently in development on the BioGro website specifically for wine additions.
The online tool will allow you to search for additions you wish to use. It will automatically approve registered products and outline any market requirements and restrictions. If a winemaker wishes to use a product that is not registered, they will be able to manually enter supporting documentation about the product and how it will be used.
I am a winery supplier…how do I get involved?
As a winery supplier, you can register your products with BioGro for up to 2 years. Interested suppliers can contact us by December 1, 2015 to learn more about the Registered Products Programme and how it can benefit your business.
